About Me

I grew up in the upstate of South Carolina, the daughter of two preacher’s kids, and the sister of one stereotypical younger brother. Growing up, my family enjoyed camping, hiking, and bicycling, as well as traveling, particularly in the western United States.

I accepted Christ as Savior when I was just a child, and had the privilege of being baptized by my Grandfather.

Being "hopelessly unathletic”, I was left to pursue more artistic interests. I studied piano for thirteen years and participated in several performance choirs throughout my school years. I have always loved writing, and wrote my first story at the tender age of 6. It was about 3 little kittens who play with a ball of yarn. Exciting, I know, but it was illustrated! From then on, writing became a big part of my life. In middle school, I met my best friend and she and I co-authored several funny stories and essays. most of which were satires of our school life. I also wrote poetry and the occasional novel. Even as a child, I used my love of writing to serve God by composing Christian poetry, devotionals, and Scriptural commentaries. In high school, I furthered my writing interests as the Editor of the school yearbook and newspaper.

In addition to writing, I enjoy paper-crafting, shopping, and discovering the works of obscure female authors of the 18th and 19th centuries. (Check out my hobby site, dedicated to these authors.)

At 17, I met my husband, Jay. It was love at first sight. We were married in August of 2001. Three years later, we moved to Northwestern North Carolina, where we currently reside.

We began our journey to parenthood in 2006, and were diagnosed as “infertile” a year later. In 2007, we became licensed foster parents and eighteen months later adopted our first child, a beautiful baby girl named Isabella. In 2011, another beautiful baby girl, Brenna, was placed in our home, and her adoption is currently pending.

Jay and I are passionate about spreading the message of foster care, particularly within the Christian community. We currently sit as charter members of our county’s Foster Parent Association board of directors, where we organize community outreach events and coordinate assistance programs for children in foster care. I also participate in speaking engagements to promote the message of foster care. Our number one priority in all of it, however, is to share the love of God with the precious children He places in our home.

The past several years have brought many ups downs in our struggle to conceive, including numerous medications, painful procedures, debilitating depression, and a life-threatening miscarriage. In the midst of the despair and hopelessness of these situations, God was beckoning me closer to Himself and placing within me the desire to share my struggles, and my source of hope with other women like me. It is my deepest desire for all women battling infertility to find peace, comfort, and hope in the ultimate source of these gifts-- Almighty God.
